The PLEX-ID system is available stand-alone or as part of a complete solution that includes the front-end sample extraction and processing equipment required for routine operation.

The Abbott PLEX-ID system delivers broad microbial screening and identification using high-resolution mass spectrometry to determine the base composition across multiple loci. Using these unique molecular signatures makes it simple to identify single or multiple organisms at trace levels in a variety of matrices.

The Abbott PLEX-ID system is designed from the ground up to be simple to maintain and use. With a built-in sample clean-up system, easily visible instrument and reagent status indicators, an intuitive touchscreen interface, fully automated reporting, and easily interpretable results, the system is simple to install, quick to learn, and ready to use for routine testing.

PLEX-ID Machine

Currently, traditional microbial testing is based on knowing what to look for. Screening for unknown organisms requires a different approach. The PLEX-ID workflow provides the ability to analyze the genomic information from all types of organisms present in a sample, often without the need to culture or perform isolation prior to analysis.

Laboratories can access Abbott PLEX-ID technology to:

  • Screen and identify bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa utilizing a library of more than 750,000 entries
  • Perform high-resolution subtyping
  • Identify known virulence markers and antibiotic-resistance genes
  • Identify mixtures of microbes direct from a single sample
  • Analyze up to 250 samples per day
  • Access results within 8 hours from preparation to identification
