Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can easily be analyzed on the Ibis T5000™ Biosensor System. The Ibis T5000 Biosensor System has the sensitivity to identify a single nucleotide (i.e., A, C, G, or T) difference. In cases where cellular genomic DNA derived from biological evidence (hair, teeth, bones, or blood) can not be extracted in sufficient quantity for forensic analysis, mtDNA can often be extracted and used to reliably identify individuals. The Ibis T5000 Biosensor System is currently used by the FBI for mtDNA forensics applications. The Ibis Assay Services Lab can test your mtDNA samples for you.
